Hello, sorry I am late with the blog again. I have been working long nights correcting the Dinomir projects. These are major projects...you will understand when you see them. We had our test in fractions. It was a little tough for some. We will rework some of the concepts and retest on Friday. Fractions are a generally tough concept for students to master. They are getting closer. We only have to cover one other section after this. Time is getting short. Things are going well. If any of you have any questions please feel free to email me kzgallant@edu.pe.ca
thanks

May 25-29
It is hard to believe that this is our last week in May. My has the time been flying by. This week we will be having a quiz on fractions. All of the students are doing quite well in this chapter. We are continuing on with the Dinomir projects. There is a lot of work to be done in a short amount of time. We are also finishing up our chapter on measurement in Science. There will be also a small project to be done in this area. I hope everyone understands the new homework set up. Students should be completing there Carnet de Lecture at home, in addition to their reading. I explained in more detail in the previous blog posting.
This week we will be traveling to see Athena s Seusical the Musical. We are very excited attend this event.
take care,
Mme Gallant

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. I know I certainly did. This week we will be starting a new unit on fractions. It will be pretty basic concepts. I am hoping that it will go well. We are continuing our Dinomir projects as well. They are coming along quite well! I have sent home permission slips for the pen pal photo exchange....try and get them in...I would like to send the letters by the end of the week. The homework has changed slightly. Instead of their homework binder they will be taking home their carnet de lecture. This should accompany their nightly reading. We have been doing these for awhile now so they should know how to do them. I will be still collecting homework on Fridays. Everything is going well! The students are great, I am sad to see the end of our school year approching!!!

Hello all! This week will be a busy. We are doing the provincial tests on Wednesday + a math test. I know that seems like a lot in one day, but the students are well prepared. The math test shouldn't be too difficult. It covers; time, money;and weight (kg/g). The students are in the middle of writing their Dinomir books. They are impressive. I can't wait for the finished products. The students stories are awesome. I am anxiously waiting to share them with you all! The homework scribbler will be changing a bit. They will be ready for later this week. I will explain the format later on. Two sets of permissions slips were sent home. Please sign them and send them back. The "Fry" day was a huge success! The students loved the tasty fries that were provided by Cavendish Farms. That's it for this week!

It is hard to believe that May is here. Wow the year is flying by. Last week we were fortunate enough to go see the Elm street play....Wow! It was amazing. The students really enjoyed it, I did too! It's great for the students to celebrate other students achievements of the same age. It shows the student what hard work and comittement can achieve. Speaking of hard work....WE STARTED!!!! We finally have started writing our Dinomir books. I love the ideas that I am seeing for our young authors. I would like to wrap up our Math unit this week and have a test early next week. We have been working on Money, Time, and Measurement. It seems to be going well. We will be also doing a science unit on Measurement, this will hopefully strengthen the students knowledge of measurements. Another permission slip was sent home on Monday. We will be going to see the Greenfield play at the Jubilee Theater. There will be no cost to the students for this play.

I apologies for writing the blog late this week. I was out sick Monday and yesterday I didn't get around to it. I was very pleased with the student's science projects. It was really neat to see what different types of cars they produced. In math we have moved on from learning about money to learning to tell time. If you would like to practice telling time at home that would be a great help. The Dinomir project is progressing very well. We are hoping to start writing on Monday!!! The work that the students are doing to become qualified authors is great. They have learned about the 6+1 writing traits and have worked hard on becoming experts of Dinomir. There will be no school on Friday. The Western School Board is holding its annual meeting. Teachers will be at Westisle Composite High School for the day to attend. Hope everything is going well for all of you. Enjoy the spring weather!!!

Hello! This week the students are continuing to work on using money in Math. Please practice many exchanges at home. This is a great way to incorporate play and learning together. We are continuing to learn about the process of writing books. The Dinomir project is going well. Students were asked last week to start a science project. They have to design and build a car (no kits or Lego please). There are three criteria they have to meet 1. It must be able to roll well, the unit is on things the can roll. 2. The car has to have a compartment that objects can be placed in. 3. It must be decorated. A few projects have come in so far, and they are fantastic. The projects are due on Friday.
Report cards went out yesterday, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Overall, I am impressed with how well the class is doing.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had an enjoyable easter holiday. On Thursday we had a math test. I am happy to inform you that overall the class did wonderfully on this test. We are now starting a new chapter that involves money, time, and duration measurements. Please practice the concept of money this week with your child. We are also moving forward on our Dinomir projects. The students ideas are really great. Report cards will be sent out next week. I will be doing interviews by request only. If you are interested in meeting with me. Please contact me by phone or email kzgallant@edu.pe.ca . I will be also requesting to meet with a few of you to discuss your child's progress. The school year is moving along quickly. I have a hard time believing spring is here....I guess the weather isn't helping me much. Take care

Hi everyone! Finally a monday without snow. This week we will be finishing up our unit on Multiplication and Division. We will be having a test on Thursday. Look out for some math homework that will be sent home this week. The class is starting the writing process for our Dinomir projects. It is very exciting. I am hoping that these projects get the students excited about writing. We are also doing a unit in science on objects that can role. We are testing which cans of soup can roll down a ramp the fastest and discovering why that might happen. It's a very good unit since it is pretty hands on. I am very pleased to announce that our class raise $100.56 for Juvenile Arthritis. As a motivation, I told the students that if we filled the bucket full of pennies we would get to watch a movie. Well the class surpassed the bucket. Now I have to make good on my promise, Wednesday afternoon we will be watching a movie and I will be providing some snacks for the students. If anyone would like to send in any juice or other snacks, feel free. (however it is not necessary).
Thanks, I hope everyone has a great Easter break,
Mme Gallant

Another short week! Hopefully that is it for snow for the year. I am hopeful! this week we will be powing ahead in division if you can keep working on multiplication throughout the next few week, I believe that that will greatly help out your child. We will be also finishing up our Dinomir series of books. This means that we will be starting the writing process for our project. Very exciting. It's hard to beieve that the easter break is just around the corner. We will be working hard to make up for some lost time due to school cancelations. This may mean a bit more homework. The students math workbooks may be going home a bit in the next few weeks. Keep checking their agendas! Homework duotangs are finished and should be in your chil'd back pack tonight. Hope everyone is doing well!
Take care,
Mme Krista

I hope everyone enjoyed their march break! I was sick on Monday, sorry I didn't get the blog posted. We had a wonderful guest teacher whom the students really enjoyed. With the storm day on Tuesday, I find myself just starting to get back into the swing of things. Don't worry about the homework duotangs for this week. I will have the next months homework planned and ready to go home for the weekend. I think that the format that I have been using has been successful. This week we will quickly review multiplications and begin division. Hopefully this transition will go smoothly. We are still accepting pennies for Juvenile Arthritis. Keep em' coming!!! I enjoyed my break however I am extremely excited to be back. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Finally!!!! A full week of school! It is nice for the students to be here on a Monday for a change. This week we will be continuing Multiplications. I would have liked to have been done of this chapter before the break however with all of the storm days it is unlikely. If you can, try and practice multiplications with your child. The week of the march break I would appreciate it if the students read 20 minutes each night. It is important for them to continue the reading process and recognize it as part of everyday life. I hope everyone will have a great break and safe travels for those who are going away on vacation.

This week the students will be writing letters to students from a class in Toronto. My sister is teaching Grade 3 French Immersion in Toronto and agreed to do a pen pal type exchange with our class. The students are very excited about this opportunity. This is a great way for students to learn about students from another part of the country while learning the conventions of writing a letter.
The students have really easily grasped multiplication in Math. They will begin to learn division in the next week or two. The class has started a class project. We will be writing and illustrating "Dinomir" books. These books will look quite professional. The students are excited about this. This project will be ongoing until June. There are many steps to the process. We are currently reading the "Dinomir" books while exploring the type of language and sentence structures that are being used (eg. Nouns, verbs, adjectives + Characters, settings, problems, solutions). Next week it is mardi gras!!! A orange newsletter was sent home with the details. I hope everyone's week is going well.

Happy Valentines to all this upcoming Saturday! This week we will be continuing multiplication. The students seem to really enjoy it so far. The class really did well on their Tables and Graphs chapter test. Please make sure you sign the test and send it back. This week the students will be starting new literacy centers. I hope that they are a success. I sent the homework duotangs home today. They are updated until the March Break. Just a reminder, that homework is an important part of school. Please make sure that your child is completing the homework. I do the homework checks on Friday's. In general things are going well. The students seem to be advancing at a good rate! Have a great week.

Sorry I am late posting my blog this week. With Parent-Teacher interviews Monday and the storm starting Tuesday and No school Wednesday made for an unorganized week. Parent-Teacher interviews went well on Monday. It was great to sit down with all of you to discuss your child's education. Don't worry about the Homework duotang for this week. I am am printing off the new set for Febuary today. They should be done and in your child's back pack by tonight (Tomorrow at the latest.) We will be back on schedule for homework next week. We will be having our spelling test on Friday, however if I notice that many students are struggling with the test we can do another one (since they didn't have their duotangs this week for studying) Other than that things are going well.

This week, we started today off by celebrating the Chinese New Year. We did some activities in the class this morning and the grade ones went around the school this afternoon in a dragon parade. It was very adorable. This week will be cut a bit short for me. I have a workshop on integrating technology in the classroom on Friday. I will let you all know how it went on next Monday's Blog. The students will have a wonderful substitute taking my place for the day. This week we will also be having our math test. The test will be Thursday and will cover chapter 5. This chapter is on tables and graphs. It seems to be concepts that the students are easily grasping.
We will be having our parent-teacher interviews on Monday Febuary 2nd. If you haven't sent back your time sheet please do so. I will also be sending appointement times home with your child this week. Make sure you keep checking their backpacks.
I hope that everyone is doing well. The students are great.

Wow what a short week.... The storm on Monday plus a workshop day on Tuesday. I was out yesterday for a workshop on running records and guided reading. This was a great workshop that helped me continue to learn how assess students reading and how to set up guided reading sessions that benefit the students progress in reading. I did however miss being in school with the class. I had a wonderful substitute come in. She had wonderful comments on how well behaved the class is. I would have to agree with her:) I received the wonderful news that I will be with the class until the end of the year. You can only imagine how many times I jumped up in the air. I am thrilled to be with this class. I absolutely adore them.
This week we will hopefully finish our math chapter. The chapter covered tables and graphs. Most students are easily grasping these concepts. This week are also working on the proper format to write a letter. I am trying to set up a pen-pal type situation with my sister's grade 3 French Immersion Class in Ontario. I think that this would be a great way for students to practice writing in a real-life context.
The report cards will be handed out towards the end of January. You all received a note sent home yesterday stating that we will not be having parent-teacher interviews until March. Since we didn't have parent-teacher interviews last term we will have them much sooner than the rest of the school. Our class will be having parent teacher interviews on Feb 2nd, 2009. I will be sending home a note tomorrow with further details.
Things are going well in the class, I am definetely seeing the students progress.
Thanks,
Krista Gallant

Well we are finally getting back into the routine of being back at school after that nice long break. This week the new homework sheets were given out. I will explain to you briefly what I expect. I decided that we needed to put the spelling words more into context. Therefor, students will be asked to write three sentences each night targeting the different words from the list. Students will also be asked to choose two books throughout the week that they would like to write up 2 events that occured in that book in addition to their nightly reading. They only have to do this twice within a week! It should not take them a long time to do, but will give me an idea if they can identify the two main events in the story.
So far this term is going great, not to mention fast. Report cards and parent teacher interviews are just around the corner (end of January).
Have a great week everyone!

2009!!!!! Happy New years to everyone! I am really looking forward to this upcoming year. I am hopeful that it will be full of fun and excitement. This week we will be trying to get back into the swing of things. We will discuss the rules of the class and the school as a mini refresher. I will be needing all homework binders so that I can refill them with the upcoming assignments. Please send them in as soon as possible. I will have them ready to go for next week. I will be sending a sheet home with this weeks homework. Check your childs backpack.
We will be starting a new math unit on Tables and Graphs. We are starting to explore why it is beneficial to use graphs or tables to describe information. This is a fun unit, I am hoping the students enjoy it.
I hope all of you are enjoying using the blog. I really find that it a good way to keep parents informed.
